As a 12 year elected Trustee on the Kingsbury General Improvement District I have gained the experience to understand budgets and make fiscal decisions for taxpayers. I have a deep understanding of how local jurisdictions in Douglas County interact with each other, the County, The State of Nevada, and Federal Government. I fight for funding for our region for water quality, transportation, workforce development, and property rights.
My long experience in attending Tahoe Regional Planning Agency Committees gives me a unique understanding of land use issues and regulation in Douglas County.
I managed over 500 events while working in the tourism, event, and hospitality industry in Douglas County from 2002-2010. I then launched a successful career as a REALTOR, where I was able to volunteer and advocate on behalf of Douglas County. Most recently, I have focused my time working with the construction industry to promote healthy development and redevelopment in the region.
Kingsbury General Improvement District – In order to comply with new LT2 (Long Term 2 Enhanced Surface Water Treatment) Federal regulations for the area in Stateline Nevada, I served as a Trustee during the planning and execution of relocating and building a new water treatment plant. During the project many challenges were overcome including: negotiating a land swap for existing easements, unanticipated additional construction scope and costs, and public outreach.
Lake Tahoe Federal Advisory Committee – During the final round of Lake Tahoe Restoration Act funding, I served as a Committee member vetting and approving the final round of funding (approx. 3 million in Federal funds for more than 20 proposed restoration or environmental projects). The Committee was re-envisioned and tasked with recycling unused funds for prioritized projects and has re-envisioned their role and how to become a platform for stakeholder engagement.
Nevada League of Cities and Municipalities – The League is an advocate for local municipalities. As the first Executive Committee Member and the first President from a General Improvement District, I have participated in efforts that bring local municipality leaders together to address issues the affect not only Douglas County, but also other areas in Nevada. In 2016 I supported passage of NV SB 29 granting functional home rule to the State of Nevada.
Environmental Consulting – I lobbied for adjustments to language in California's SB 630 which would have had detrimental effects on the Lake Tahoe area, including coordinating with various Nevada officials regarding their proposed bill - SB 271. I communicated with a variety of stakeholders from various municipalities, private entities, NGO's, and California and Nevada legislators to encourage the approval of the TRPA Regional Plan Update. I have also worked with various groups on Best Management Practice policies in the Lake Tahoe basin and advocated for a balance between private property rights and environmental regulations.
University of Southern California – The culmination of this rigorous program was my academic thesis with an accompanying study regarding Environmental Communication and the possibility of private property owners participating in community-wide or area-wide Best Management Practices for erosion control projects in the Lake Tahoe Basin. The study included qualitative and quantitative input and data from private property owners, local, state, and federal agency officials.
